DIF-OT differential speed ceiling filtration system for critical operating theatres

The advantages of an unconventional solution

The 3 different air velocities work in synergy in order to ensure a clean air flow directed from the zone occupied by the surgical table towards the perimeter areas of the operating room to ensure maximum patient protection.

Refer to the product sheet for further information

The filter section

The different air velocities are guaranteed by a filter section integrated by tested HEPA filters.

Each filter designed for critical air environments is tested and packaged in an air quality controlled environment.

Each filter is individually tested. The complete filter production is tested.

The warranty seal of the filtering system is assured by the use of a “rls” (reversed-gel liquid seal) gasket.

Air distribution terminals

Using specifically controlled permeable air diffusers, the 3-velocities system guarantees the highest levels of efficiency.

These membrane diffusers ensure maximum uniformity of the downstream air flow of each filter, consequently, allowing to have three different zones with three well-defined velocities.

Such uniform flow can not be achieved with conventional terminals for air distribution often used in similar applications.

The installation and the correct positioning of the different filters with the integrated diffusers are guided by the filter colouring, avoiding mistakes during on the field.

Applications

LAMINAR FLOW CANOPY WITH RECIRCULATION FANS

Nowadays almost all world standards stand that the air flow rate introduced into an operating room is made up of an outside portion and a considerable proportion of recirculated air from the same room.

In view of the relatively high air flow required for the abatement of the pollutant load in these environments, the possibility to recirculate a high percentage of the total flow rate allows a considerable energy saving, especially in geographic areas distinguished by extreme outside design temperatures, while ensuring the absolute quality of processed air.

The HVAC industry commonly uses systems that include centralized Air Handling Units for fresh air treatment to service of one or more zones, and dedicated Air Handling Units for the recirculation air handling.

However, some architectural constraints may make it difficult or even impossible to use the system above explained. Especially in the case of renovation or retrofit market.

In this case, the recirculation module with integrated solution is able to provide the designer and installer maximum flexibility.

Each module includes the following components:

  • Filtering ceiling with HEPA H14 filters at different velocities (also available in single velocity).
  • High-efficiency fans.
  • Sections to reduce noise levels.
  • Air recovery units at the four corners of the room.

Applications

Hybrid room with floor-mounted angiographic x-ray

The Hybrid Operation Theatre is finding more and more space in hospitals around the world, this is direct consequence of the many benefits it delivers to the hospitals, surgeons and patients.

The concept of hybrid room provides the presence of advanced diagnostics systems fixed to the floor, ceiling or furniture, in addition to the area of surgery. This facilitates the operations diagnostic within the local area before, during and after the actual surgical intervention, very precisely. All the installations accessories including the ventilation and air filtration, must be designed and manufactured to minimize their invasiveness.

Therefore, each hybrid room can be a symbol of excellence for each hospital.
SagiCofim supports all the design, installation and commissioning of the rooms, in order to ensure maximum efficiency, considering the following:

  • Room and Protected Zone Dimensions:
The hybrid-type surgical rooms have a much larger surface area compared to similar conventional operating rooms, because of the greater number of specialist staff is present during the intervention, as well as the presence of many machines and tools.Precisely for this reason, the protected zone from the filtered air flow must be sufficiently broad to protect the patient and remove all types of contaminants.
  • HVAC System Air Flow:
The high occupancy generates a greater level of pollution compared to a normal operating room, both in terms of inert particles biologically active.
Depending on the type of clothing allowed by the internal procedures of the hospital and the filtering ceiling size, the experts of TechIN / SagiCofim team are able to advise the correct amount of air flow through which the three different airflow velocities can operate in synergy with the maximum efficiency of pollutant removal.
Always considering the best National and International Standards and Design Guidelines.
  • Air Extraction Points Dimensioning:
The ideal arrangement for the air extraction from an operating room is designed around four shooting points in the local corners positioned in the lower part of the walls, and the same number of recovery points in the upper part in the vicinity of the ceiling, in order to extract about 60-70% of the flow from the bottom and the remaining part from above.
However, in a hybrid-type room, in most of the cases the operating table and the filtering ceiling are not positioned at the center of the room. Therefore, to avoid imbalances in the air flow that moves from the operating table to the walls, the extraction grids must be appropriately sized for each application.
